Pre-season jinx

go vince go

Yesterday afternoon, the Big XII snuck out the media preseason poll. Holy shit. My mind has been so drowned in baseball lately that I completely lost track of football time. For shame. So anyway, yeah, we're ranked to win the division. God bless you, media, but I'm blaming you for the jinx.

Earlier this weekend, Rod was named Big XII preseason defensive player of the year. Damn straight. I expect 45 tackles, 6 for loss, and 4 sacks. Tall order, I know, but it's Rod. He's a manimal. Other preseason all Big XII-ers: Blalock, Aaron Harris, Huff-Daddy, Jon Scott, DT, and, of course, VY. I'm peeing my pants in excitement.

As confident as I was during my undergraduate career that each season was "our year," I think this year I've officially adopted Giz's reserved hesitance. Sure, I'll always have that boyish giddiness deep inside, but I don't know if I have it in me to lay my heart on the line, yet again, for the inevitable crushing defeat. I'm sure things will change immediately after taking that first step out into the sunlight at Memorial on the glorious first Saturday of September, but for now my emotions are somewhat tempered.

(Very irrelevant aside: Sam and Bob on KVET play Willie's cover of Midnight Rider EVERY DANG MORNING. Come on guys.)

I think the Media Days are here in Houston (today and tomorrow?), so I'll keep you posted on the local coverage. Maybe if we're really nice to Giz, we can get a real preseason analysis out of him. Cross your fingers. The juices are flowing, boys...

let me be the first one to comment on this log. so as i'm sitting in a bowling alley last night reminiscing of my days as a professional bowler i struck up a conversation with an aggie. running into anyone from texas is a welcomed event so i was friendly. as soon as he found out i was from UT he asked me, "do you think you guys are going to beat OU this year?" this isn't the first time i have been asked this question since i graduated, but it does bring up a point. when we beat OU i will be optimistic for winning our conference.

This may not be in depth analysis, but i will just say this. The whole season rests on the legs of one man. If vy goes down, the whole team does. many people may question if he can run as effectively without a stud like benson in the backfield to key off of. Just be ready for a couple of guys to shine, ie: jamaal charles and ramonce. These two could be for real. there is also selvin, it will be nice to see if he can get a whole season out. but it still rests on vince. we have no backup...matt nordgren does not count, and neither does colt mccoy(best name in college football). Defense will be amazing, but keep all eyes on #10.

Just because the whole season rests on the health of VY, doesn't mean we should be downtrodden. That's like saying that Team Discovery Channel's chances all rest on Lance Armstrong. I'll take Vince and Lance or nothing any day. Believe.

Actually as always our entire season rests on the fat spongy shoulders of greg davis, who has repeatedly proven he is the jerry rice/cal ripken of sucking. Season after season my spite grows darker.

I LOVE that guy. He is ridicu-huge, and he stands there with his arms crossed and wearing those dumb glasses. He sorta reminds me of a softcore porn character, you know, how to make the big meathead look smart all they do is slap specs on him... yeah whatever.

On chicks:
So that's all it takes???

On Football:
Look out for Selvin Young. I've been told that he has been kicking ass in the classroom and is up to 210. Also watch out for Nate Jones, Shipley, and Sweed. All reports on 7 on 7 practice through the summer is that the "light bulb" has finally clicked on between Vince and his receivers. FYI Derek Lokey broke his leg this week and may miss the first half of the season.

If we have any semblance of a passing game I'll nut myself.

What's the word on season tickets? Are you guys getting a seating group? Send an email on the listserv.
